Crane Certification Guelph - The Crane Certification training program includes subject matter recommended by industry concerning the efficient and safe operation of cranes. People training would be taught the following: pre-operational, operational and post operating requirements; how to identify cranes and their component parts; rigging components and inspection/rejection criteria; how to determine overall lift capacity; and needs particular to the work place where the individuals training would be operating.

The requirements which should be carried out prior to operating a crane like for example assigning authority for the pre-operational check; doing the sequential pre-operational check based on the specifications certified by a professional engineer or manufacturer's specifications; inspecting the work area for hazards and obstacles; checking the log book for comments; inspecting hooks, chains, cables, safety latches and crane movement; ensuring the correct functioning of operational controls; and learning how to make sure that the disconnect switch/isolator of the crane is properly functioning.

The requirements to operating a crane will comprise the identifying of responsibilities and roles, and the determination of the requirement for a formal lift plan. The individual training will be taught how to do danger assessments for the varying environmental situations, physical situations and workers. Subject matter consists of determining when to seek competent support, the safest route and destination of loads, and centre of gravity and load weight.

It is essential for people training to be able to identify an over-capacity lift, pick right rigging equipment, be aware of load restrictions, and determine a safe spot from which to operate. Individuals training will review both universal and site-specific crane signals for lifts, and techniques for lifting, loading and traveling. Right maintenance practice would be included.

The trainee would undergo an examination to test their knowledge of emergency response procedures for various scenarios, specially electrical or mechanical failures. They will be asked to describe parking and shut down procedures for safety and security, to follow tagging and lock out techniques, and to explain why near misses are reported and recorded to the right individual. Log book records must be maintained.

The person training would learn the particulars of rigging, and be taught the authority and responsibility for rigging. They would know to identify the different kinds of rigging, the load capacity ratings and storage procedures.

The requirements after operation of the crane would be taught too, learning to enter the deficiencies and defects; and to log the history of maintenance and service records, in accordance to the state, provincial and federal codes requirements.
